A project to find the
Fundamental Theory of Physics
The definitive guide to Wolfram Physics.
This is a big, beautiful book: over 750 pages of elegant explanation and incredible images illustrating Stephen Wolfram’s progress towards a fundamental theory of physics.
The entire book is available for free online at the Wolfram Physics Project, but you’ll thank yourself for buying the printed book regardless. The diagrams look pretty good on a screen, but they’re exquisite in print.
The book starts with Stephen Wolfram’s April 14, 2020 announcement of the project, which is a masterfully concise summary of the discoveries to that date. This chapter is available online at Finally We May Have a Path to the Fundamental Theory of Physics... and It’s Beautiful.
The bulk of the book is the Technical Introduction, which is available online at A Class of Models with the Potential to Represent Fundamental Physics. You’d be forgiven for thinking that the technical introduction might be, you know, a bit technical, but it’s not too difficult to follow. It’s highly graphical, which makes it a pleasure to read. And Stephen Wolfram’s not exaggerating when he says it’s beautiful: almost every page of the technical introduction is packed with amazing images.
Thrown in at the end of the book are some history, background and foundations, the latter being a chapter reproduced from Stephen Wolfram’s earlier book, A New Kind of Science.
I can’t recommend this hardback highly enough. Wolfram Physics might be the most fundamental scientific breakthrough of our time. If you have the least interest in physics, you should treat yourself to this magnificent book.
